It’s important to consider hanger width when buying street trucks for your cruiser or longboard. That could reduce the travel enough to avoid wheelbite. It’s the fact that I can’t imagine those cutouts being as reliable over years of use and abuse, especially at the speeds I hit on my cruisers. Not everyone likes the overhang feeling in the back. The Tugboat isn’t a larger version of the Dinghy, though it shares a lot of its DNA. Not as long as a pintail, nor as flat, but it with enough shape to give you the best of both deck styles. The Tugboat also has a flat, more Dinghy-like nose and tail, so you’re not going to get the same kind of rail pushing action during slides, but will have more of a comfortable spot for your back foot. One’s on the top of the deck, under the grip tape, and the other is a few layers down. Swish-swish-swish! If you step down in board size then it’s time to step it up to the 130mm Polar Bears. Definitely would recommend this product to someone who is looking to get around town while still having a whole lot of fun. But, with the lack of wheel wells, it's limited to wheels around 60mm. This means that, despite its large contact patch for its diameter, like the Fatty Hawg, slide initiation still feels smooth. Disappointing since this was meant to be given as a present within the timeframe of the purchase/delivery. However, the wheelbase is over two inches longer, 2.25″. I had recently written about it, so I suppose it sat in my subconscious, waiting for one of my dreams to involve travel and therefore require a skateboard. I think for more experienced skaters it may replace the Dingy as a portable cruiser. The Dugout is more narrow in the back, by the tail, but, like the Dinghy, the concave still flattens out to give you a pocket for your foot. It’s a solid and consistent feeling truck. It might be worth it to try 150mm Paris V3’s with the 50º baseplate and a 5º wedge up front. Video. I've ripped down streets with big gnarly cracks, no problem. The Loco was Landyachtz’ park cruiser, made for skate parks, ramps, and pools. All the little pieces of this design compliment each other. I described it in my review of the Landyachtz Pinner as well. 25. Landyachtz decks come with Spaceball bearings. There’s one up by the nose as well. There’s the Shadow Puppet, designed by Brazilian artist Muretz, and the Grey Skull, designed by Georgia-based American artist David Hale. Like the Fatty Hawg, it’s an offset wheel. I have mine set up now with Indy trucks (127mm hangers) and the 60mm Chubby Hawgs. That’s where the Chubby Hawg comes in. 1 year ago Check out the new Super Chief! There’s also some mild size hills. Skate it to work or shred a local skatepark. Here, Bear has trucks ranging from 85mm up to 180mm. On the Dugout, after the bolts for the trucks, there’s a slight dip down, towards the road, before going back into the tail. Still, you can order it from Loaded in a few setups, with street trucks or reverse kingpin trucks. One thing to note is that, because of this wedged riser, your deck is far more directional. I don't think a Dugout would be a bad choice, it's just that top mounted cruisers put you off the ground a bit, and when you're getting started with skating, pushing and stopping are trickier when you're further from the ground. Plus I can only stay out so long before my eyes water, nose runs, and face freezes solid. It’s fast to turn in, quick to recover, and dives into carves, eager to swoop through and back out. This board came to me in a dream. It's not great for hills though. Even using lube or soap leads them to squeaking a short time later. The Tugboat mini-cruiser is designed for daily urban commuting and nimble transportation around the neighborhood or a college campus. No slop, all control. It’s also about as close as you’ll get in a cruiser deck. I got them for a different setup, so I knew from the beginning that this would be temporary. If you're looking for a cruiser that has a long wheelbase and a surfy feel, it's great. It’s got 7 plies of Canadian Maple, but they feel slightly thinner than the plies on the Dinghy. In fact, that’s a very similar setup to the Dugout. I think it was the fact that the bushings are on the softer side. Still, I have plenty of bushings, and I was able to firm them up a bit. It’s possible, just a little frustrating. I frequently have these complex dreams with their own dream geography. You can get some soft 60mm wheels for it, but it's not going to be as smooth as a double drop deck with RKP trucks and big 70mm+ wheels. A micro-review of each of those setups will be coming soon. These are two different skateboards. Which is better? It’s not a terrible setup, but I went back to “stock” Chubby Hawgs after a few days. I’m as surprised as you are. They only very recently began offering Bear RKP trucks under 165mm (their latest Kodiaks come in 140mm!). Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2020. I rode this setup without doing any of that. As for standing on it, it’s a very comfortable wheelbase and length. We work tirelessly to ensure these elements come together to provide the best control and performance for your board. But, as far as portable cruisers are concerned, the longer wheelbase on this does make it a better option for people getting started than, say, a mini cruiser like a Dinghy. Anyway, put much more detail in the article than I can share here, but it's a lot of fun, a nimble little thing with the benefits of a street cruiser and a longer wheelbase rolled into one. Then you’ll want to either use some thin soft risers along with the included wedged and hard risers to give yourself a little extra space. I went with these because they sit low, but higher than Landyachtz’s Polar Bear trucks, about 4mm taller (Polar Bear trucks have a height around 48mm). Could the Dugout overthrow the champion of the Landyachtz cruisers, the Dinghy? For the Dugout, it could use perhaps another millimeter of height, but no more. Something like the Tugboat or Ditchlife would make more room for your feet if you want to avoid overhang. I’m at the point where I frequently swap out the included pivot cups in my trucks for WFB pivot cups from Riptide. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. Un régal pour cruiser! Also, the mold is slightly different. We design our trucks and wheels to fit perfectly with each individual deck. If you dig directional cruiser skateboards you're going to love the Dugout from Landyachtz. I absolutely love the natural look of that deck too. Really. Review Ace Trucks Bear Trucks Dinghy Dugout Easy Hawgs Hawgs Landyachtz Paris Savants Paris Trucks Polar Bear Trucks Thunder Trucks About the author Longboarding always looked fun, and, with a growing commute, I got into it as a means to have fun and get to work a little faster. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. But it also doesn't handle cracks in the pavement as well. In fact, many prefer to get this kind of control with a ‘W’ concave or decently sized drops (or both). It’s hard to describe it as anything but a “solid” feel. Now, a whole bunch of things kept me from getting back to the hills on the east side of the city to try it out—because my dreams never let me do what I want to do—but I did get to skate it a bit through some crowds and liked what I saw. The road side bushing is a “short street cone” from Riptide and many other bushing manufacturers. Not super portable though. Considered it before, but that spot in my lineup is sort of well served by my other decks, so I'd be buying it just to review it. They’ll also love that divey nose. The riser obviously isn’t part of the deck, but it’s not part of the trucks or anything else either. I can’t make a direct comparison. Aside from that, the board rides super smooth and carves really well. However, thanks to getting started on a small deck, I’m not overly uncomfortable on smaller platforms. The company makes tweaks, little changes, and then a new setup is born. It gets dark so quickly I hardly want to skate after 5PM too. There are only two designs for the Dugout right now. The 8.25″ Thunder trucks have a 143.8mm hanger. Once it’s under your board, you stop thinking about their problems, especially once you dial in your bushings. I’m not sure I prefer the larger wheel enough to sacrifice the Dugout’s low ride height. That’s thanks to the 5º wedged riser up front. My recommended setup would be similar to Landyachtz’. They’re also about 0.95″ in diameter. Landyachtz’ truck brand is Bear. Street wheels mount on the axles in such a way that the axle and the edge of the wheel come to an end at the same spot, due to how narrow they are. That’s a tough thing. They stick out a lot more. Will we soon see top-mount decks with 140mm trucks and wide, offset wheels? In fact, the height of the bushing with the included cupped washer matches the height of a longboard bushing. Before the nose and tail, unlike the Dinghy, the deck curves down towards the ground before coming back up into the tail. Maybe don't buy from amazon. Sorry I'm new at this. I was looking at the same board. It’s all about leverage on a cruiser like this. I did a lot of cruising and even bombed a few hills. The deck is longer and a bit wider than a Dinghy, so Landyachtz gave it larger trucks. Venom’s street bushings will fit in here, as will Thunder Truck’s bushings, but they’re both double cone setups, which you may find leans too easily. The Tugboat, Dinghy, and Dugout are actually very different cruisers. If you want a bit more snappiness though, or if you’re a heavier rider, you’re going to want to swap them out for something a bit harder, or simply a different formula (like Riptide’s highly responsive Krank formula). At 31.5″ long and 8.5″ wide it’s still quite compact and has a good amount of pop, but the longer wheelbase and wider trucks allow for deeper turns and more stability. You’ll definitely find it’s less stable in reverse, especially if you’re riding switch and not very used to it. The Shadow Puppet design makes a little bunny shadow out of an obscene gesture. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, More posts from the cruiserboarding community, Press J to jump to the feed. You can probably tell by the axle dimensions that these are not typically set up for longboards or cruisers. Pick it if you want a longer and more stable platform for sliding, but still want a compact single kick cruiser. My Bustin Boards Bonsai conquers cracks like they’re nonexistant, and does so on tall trucks with a lot of lean. This can help you dial in the leverage you have over the rotational axis, as well as remove some shakiness that a narrower platform can introduce. The cone portion of the setup Orangatang sells won’t fit unless you cut it down, but the barrel will fit in place of the standard bushing, sitting only a small amount taller. I think the Ember is perfect for that, because it's more nimble and features a smoother ride. It’s the widest range of truck sizes they offer. Fast to get up to speed, resists some small cracks and bumps, and easy enough to kick out when I need to. So here are a few “non-stock” setups I tried out. Basically anything wrong with the penny board this board does right. It’s a decent enough replacement for Bears, but honestly, I’d take the Bear Trucks for a cruiser setup over the Thunder trucks. The Dugout’s tail is more progressive and a little shorter.
